Altar Servers

Children,  and adults who assist at the altar and in the prayer, Candidates must have received their First Communion. Sch classes if not enrolled in a Catholic age Altar Servers are required to attend CCE classes if not enrolled in a Catholic School.

Altar and Rosary Society

The altar society is a group of women who are dedicated to preparing the church environment for liturgies and leading rosary prayer when needed.

Mission

Provides  a serine environment conducive to avail oneself to the presence of the Eucharistic Christ and foster an intimate relationship with our lord Jesus Christ thus surrendering oneself to the Holy Spirit’s call in the silence of one’s heart.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Choir/Musicians

The mission of our choir is to glorify and praise the Holy Name of God. We will provide encouragement to those who seek Him and will do our part in the healing of our planet by spreading peace and joy through the healing force of music.

We will keep alive the sounds of ancient musicians, and we will tell our own stories with the music of today.

Religious Education

Continuing Christian Education (CCE):

CCE Provides religious education and sacramental preparation for parish children and young people in grades K-12. CCE Classes generally run concurrently with the academic calendar.

Deacon John Kinch oversees the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Other education opportunities arise throughout the year and are announced in the parish bulletin

Lectors

The mission of the Ministers of the Word is to effectively proclaim the word of God as scheduled at liturgical celebrations. The lector is the minister who brings the word to life to help shape the faith of the parishioners.

Lectors are men and women who should be Confirmed Catholics in good standing.

Meetings: Annual formation meeting for ongoing training.

Works of Mercy

Mission

The mission of Mary Mother of the Church – Works of Mercy Ministry is to help the needy of our community.

  • To provide short and long term food assistance to residents who are struggling
  • To provide assistance for utilities, medical expenses, travel and rent during emergencies.
  • To offer donated clothes as available

The amount of the food, clothing and other assistance offered each month is based on donations from community at that time.

The hours of the operation are Tuesday and Friday from 9:00a.m. to 11:30a.m.

Mary Mother of the Church – Works of Mercy is a member agency of the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank.

The Works of Mercy Ministry is staffed by volunteers.

Meetings: First Monday of the month on a quarterly basis.

Extraordinary Ministers

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion:

Adults who assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and visit parishioners who are ill. Extraordinary Minister’s must be full-initiated Catholics and living in accordance with Church teaching.

Ushers

Ushers are men, women and youth who volunteer during Mass to seat or accommodate people, distribute bulletins and oversee the offertory collection.
